What is an Oracle Deck?
Oracle decks are similar to tarot decks in a sense that they are a collection of cards that provide perspective and guidance. The main difference between tarot and oracle decks are that tarot follow a specific structure (78 cards split between major and minor arcana) where as oracle decks are much be more flexible, each oracle deck is unique and they leave more room for interpretation.
How do I use an Oracle Deck?
There is no right or wrong way to use your oracle deck, but below is a recommended approach:
Step 1 - Cleanse your cards when you first receive them. This can either be under moon light, by ringing a bell, or burning incense or sage.
Step 2 - Choose the right time to use your cards. I find the early morning or late in the evening works best. Do not use oracle cards when you're in a bad mood, wait until you are feeling more centered.
Step 3 - Knock on the deck and hold them in front of your heart. Take a deep breath and ask a question either out loud or in your mind. I often ask "Where should I focus my energy on?"
Step 4 - Shuffle the cards for as long as you feel necessary, if a card jumps out then that is your card, if not select a card that feels right. Sometimes I like to lay 4 or 5 cards out and then place my hand just above them to see which one feels the warmest.
Step 5 - Once you have your card take a moment to notice any first thoughts that pop into your mind. If you have a guidebook refer to that if you like, but always go with your instincts first. You may like to do some free journaling to delve a bit deeper.
What Oracle Deck is best for me?
There are an unlimited amount of oracle decks to choose from, some have a specific purpose, and some are more general. Choose the one that you feel the most drawn to (in some cases it's okay to judge a book by it's cover!).
My favourite deck at the moment is the Angel Numbers & Signs Oracle Guidance Deck, the best thing about is that it can be used two ways - as an oracle deck, and as daily guidance: If you are noticing angel numbers or signs throughout your day, use this deck as a glossary or guide. Find the sign you are seeing in the deck and read the meaning of the message your angels are trying to send you. Reflect on how you can align yourself with your angel message to achieve your highest good.
Message from Ness (the creator of the deck) - "My intention has always been to create something special to help others connect with their angels with loving and gentle energy - to share some guidance with others who have at some point in their lives struggled with their spiritual identity. I hope that this deck touches the hands of all those in need of guidance and it helps them to move forward with complete love, faith and trust in their guides."
